The activation new iPhone 7 process takes 2-3 minutes, if activating over Wi-Fi, an active Wi-Fi network must be available. If activating OTA, device must be in a Verizon Wireless 3G or LTE area.
Verify the device has a charge. Select a Wi-Fi network to connect. Or if you're setting up iPhone with active cell service, you can select Use Cellular Connection or get help activating AT&T cell service or if you can't connect to Wi-Fi. If the battery is drained, use the included AC adapter to charge for approximately 15 minutes. If setting up on a Prepaid account, you can also activate your device online. Set Up new iPhone
Press the Power button (located on the top-right edge) to power the iPhone 7 on.

iPhone 7 Instructions Activation guide:

Press the Home button to unlock your iPhone.

Tap the screen to choose language then tap the country or region.

Tap the Wi-Fi network, enter the Wi-Fi password then tap Join.

If activating via the OTA method, tap Use Cellular Connection.

Tap a location services option:

Enable Location Services

Disable Location Services

When prompted to set up Touch ID, tap the Home button.

Place your thumb or finger on the Home button repeatedly as directed.

If prompted to change your grip, tap Continue.

Place your thumb or finger on the Home button repeatedly as directed then tap Continue.

Enter a 6-digit passcode, re-enter passcode, then tap Next.


Tap a set up option:

Set Up as New iPhone
Enter your Apple ID and Password then tap Next.

If you have an Apple ID, a verification code is sent to another device already using that ID; you must enter this to proceed with activation.

If you don't have an Apple ID, refer to Create An Apple ID.

To continue, review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.

If prompted, tap Agree to confirm.

Tap Next.

From the Apple Pay screen, tap Set Up Later in Wallet.

From the iCloud Keychain screen, choose one of the following

Approve from Other Device

Use iCloud Security Code

Don't Restore Passwords

Tap Next from the Apple Pay screen.

Tap Set Up Later in Wallet.

Tap a Siri option:

Turn On Siri

Turn On Siri Later

Tap a Diagnostics option:

Send to Apple

Don't Send


Tap an App Analytics option:

Share with App Developers

Don't Share


Tap the "Standard" or "Zoomed" view then tap Next.

Tap Get Started.


If presented with Can Siri help you? tap Dismiss.

Confirm the status bar at the top of the screen changes from No Service to provider, this process may take 2-3 minutes.


How to Set Up New iPhone

iTunes Activation Method

From the computer, close any open apps.

Open the iTunes app on the computer.

If prompted with an available software update, it's recommended to download and update.

Connect the iPhone to the computer via USB cable.

Press the Home button to unlock your iPhone.

Tap the screen to choose language then tap the country or region.

Tap a set up option:
  1. Set Up as New iPhone
  2. Restore from iTunes Backup

From the phone, choose a Wi-Fi network, enter the credentials then tap Join.

Tap a Location Services option:

Enable Location Services

Disable Location Services

From the Touch ID screen, place your finger or thumb on the Home button or tap Set Up Touch ID Later.

If asked to adjust your grip, follow the on-screen prompts and tap Continue.

Place your finger or thumb repeatedly on the Home button then tap Continue to complete.

Enter a 6-digit passcode then re-enter to confirm.

Enter your Apple ID and Password.

Review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.

If prompted, tap Agree.

From the Apple Pay screen, tap Next.

From the Add Card screen, tap one of the following:

If presented with Can Siri help you? tap Dismiss.

Set Up Later in Wallet


From the iCloud Keychain screen, tap one of the following:

Approve from other device

Use iCloud security code

Don't restore passwords


From the Siri screen, tap one of the following:

Set Up Siri

Turn on Siri Later

From the Diagnostics screen, tap one of the following:

Send to Apple

Don't send

From the App Analytics screen, tap one of the following:
  • Share with App Developers
  • Don't share
  • From the Display screen, tap one of the following:
  • Standard
  • Zoomed
  • After selecting a display, tap Next.
  • Tap Get Started.

Confirm that the status bar at the top of the screen changes from etwork provider (Verizon, AT&T and more)

From iTunes on the computer, click the Eject button to the right of the device name. iPhone can then be safely disconnected from the computer.

For iTunes version 11 or higher, click the Eject button to the right of the iPhone button (located in the upper-left).

If you're setting up your first iPhone

If you already set up your new iPhone but want to start over, learn what to do. Otherwise, follow these steps to set up your new iPhone.
Turn on your device

You'll see "Hello" in many languages. Press the Home button to unlock your device and begin set up.

If you're blind or have low vision, you can turn on VoiceOver or Zoom from the Hello screen.

Get help if your device won't turn on, or if it's disabled or requires a passcode.



Select your language and country or region

When asked, choose your language. Then tap your country or region. This affects how information looks on your device, including date, time, contacts, and more.

You need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, cellular network, or iTunes to activate and continue setting up your device.

Tap the Wi-Fi network that you want to use or select a different option. If you're setting up an iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Celluar), you might need to insert your SIM card first.

Then decide on Location Services, a feature you need for apps like Maps and Find My Friends.

Get help if you can't connect to Wi-Fi or if you can't activate your iPhone.


Set up Touch ID and create a passcode

On some devices, you can set up Touch ID. With this feature, you can use your fingerprint to unlock your device and make purchases.

Next, set a six-digit passcode to help protect your data. You need a passcode to use features like Touch ID and Apple Pay. If you'd like a four-digit passcode, custom passcode, or no passcode, tap Passcode Options.


Restore or transfer your information and data

If you have an iCloud or iTunes backup, or an Android device, you can restore or transfer your data from your old device to your new device.

Sign in with your Apple ID and set up iCloud Drive

Enter your Apple ID and password, or tap Don't have an Apple ID or forgot it. From here, you can recover your Apple ID or password, create an Apple ID, or set it up later.

If you use more than one Apple ID, tap Use different Apple IDs for iCloud and iTunes.

Then accept the iOS Terms and Conditions. If you signed in with your Apple ID, follow the steps to set up iCloud Drive, Apple Pay, and iCloud Keychain.


Set up Siri

Choose whether to use Siri. On some devices, you'll be asked to speak some phrases so that Siri can get to know your voice.



Customize the click of your Home button

If you have an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you can set up how your Home button responds when you press it. Just tap an option, then press the Home button to give it a try. To set the one you like best, tap Next.

If you want to skip this screen or want to set up your Home button later, tap Customize Later in Settings.


Choose settings for app analytics and display resolution

Decide whether to share information with app developers.

Next, if you have an iPhone 6 or later, choose between two display resolutions: Standard shows more on your screen, while Zoomed uses larger text and controls. Tap Next to continue.

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution To avoid potential iPhone 7 issues, review the following:

  1. If activation is performed with an incorrect Apple ID or different phone number, erase all content and settings then sign in to iTunes with the correct Apple ID while tethered to the computer.
  2. To prevent issues with activating or establishing a data connection, verify that the old device is powered off prior to activating the new device.
